'Purple' was inspired by another, non-musical project I was working on.
Some who know me know that I am an electronic engineer by trade, and I love to experiment, so I thought I'd decorate my room with coloured LEDs and build my own circuit to drive them.
Even fewer people know that I am also a synaesthete (I often perceive pitches as colours and vice-versa), and I wrote this song with my circuit set to make the LEDs purple! I originally wrote it in B-flat minor, as that is what I associated with purple. Much later, though, I decided it sounded nicer in D minor, but kept the title as a nice little reminder of where the song came from.
